Sinus Lifts in Sheffield and Florence, AL

If you've been told that you don't have enough bone for dental implants, a sinus lift may be the solution. This procedure adds bone to the upper jaw, especially in areas where the sinus cavity has reduced bone height. By lifting the sinus membrane and placing bone graft material, the procedure helps create a stable foundation for dental implants. Once healed and integrated, the bone is strong enough to support implants. Shoals Oral & Facial Surgery in Sheffield and Florence, AL, offers advanced sinus lift procedures to restore your jawbone and prepare you for dental implants. Don't let bone loss hold you back — contact us today to schedule your consultation and discover how sinus lift surgery can transform your smile and oral health.

Sinus lifts are performed at Shoals Oral & Facial Surgery with local anesthesia or other sedation options at the patient's request. During the procedure, your surgeon will make an incision around the molars to gain access to the jawbone. After creating an opening in the bone, they'll lift the sinus membrane and fill the space with bone graft material, which may come from your own body or another donor source. After implanting the bone, we'll suture the incisions shut.

Recovery after sinus lift surgery typically takes several months as the bone graft integrates with your natural jawbone. Once the area has healed, we'll examine it and review your dental implant options.

If you're considering dental implants but have experienced bone loss in your upper jaw, sinus lift surgery can help make your smile restoration possible. This procedure creates the solid foundation your implants need to thrive, offering benefits like:

  • Increases bone mass in the upper jaw, allowing for proper placement of dental implants.
  • Allows individuals with insufficient bone density to receive dental implants
  • Raises the sinus floor to reduce the risk of implant complications
  • Prevents facial collapse and a sunken appearance resulting from missing teeth and bone loss
  • Improves the stability and longevity of dental implants by providing adequate bone support
  • May improve breathing for individuals with sinus problems
  • Restores full bite strength, enabling individuals to eat and chew more confidently

I went to Oral and Facial in Florence Al on Titan yesterday for a sinus lift and a bone graft.Erin my nurse she calmed my fear because I didn’t know what to expect, I honestly thought it was going to be terrible and I was going to be in dyer pain but Dr.Fredrick came in and he also calmed my fear came in like this was going to be easy and quick and boy was it they were both A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I came out very numbed up but as the pain wore off I had little sore throat and little to no pain. Today is day 2 and little to no pain, now I do have some swelling which is to be expected but no nose bleeds, no congestion. Just a little soreness and swelling. I love that place, those people and so glad God chose them to the nurses and Dr’s for my journey to getting implants.

Is a sinus lift painful?

A sinus lift is typically performed under local anesthesia or sedation, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. Some swelling and discomfort are normal after surgery, but these can be managed with prescribed medications. Our oral surgeons will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.

Are there risks associated with a sinus lift?

Like any surgical procedure, a sinus lift carries some risks, such as infection or sinus membrane perforation. However, these risks are rare and can often be managed effectively by an experienced professional at Shoals Oral & Facial Surgery. Detailed pre-surgical planning and post-operative care help minimize complications.

How do I prepare for a sinus lift?

Before your procedure, our staff in Sheffield and Florence, AL, will review your medical history and may take imaging scans to evaluate your sinuses and jawbone. You may be advised to stop certain medications or follow specific dietary restrictions before surgery. We will make sure you are fully prepared for the procedure and understand what to expect.

How long does the sinus lift surgery take to complete?

A sinus lift procedure at Shoals Oral & Facial Surgery is typically completed within 90 minutes to two hours. The exact duration depends on the amount of bone being added and the complexity of your individual case. Our team will provide you with a more precise time estimate during your initial consultation.

Can I eat normally after my sinus lift surgery?

Immediately following your surgery, you will need to stick to a diet of soft foods to avoid putting pressure on the healing area. You should also avoid using straws, as the suction can disrupt the surgical site. As you heal, our staff will advise you when you can gradually reintroduce harder foods into your diet.

Is a sinus lift my only option for getting dental implants?

If bone loss is minimal, alternative techniques or shorter implants might be possible. However, when significant bone height is needed in the upper jaw, a sinus lift is often the most effective and reliable solution. During a consultation in Sheffield and Florence, AL, our team will evaluate your jawbone and discuss all viable options to restore your smile.
